Document Codes

The Instrument column of a chain of title record displays a two to three-letter code that is referred to as Document Code or Type. Some of these codes represent legal documents that are integrated into the title chain. The integrated documents are classified into two categories: Primary and Secondary.

Primary Document Types

Some examples of primary document types that trigger the integration of reference documents into the title chain are:

MLN	Mechanic's Lien
MTG	Mortgage
UCC	Uniform Commercial Code

Note: Document codes and primary document types vary from county to county. Contact your local Data Trace Representative for the list of document codes and primary document types, that trigger the Auto A&R feature, that are available for your county.

Secondary Document Types

Use the Document Codes listed in the County Information to identify the following secondary document codes that are integrated into the title chain:
